Lean Portfolio Bootcamp

Introduce Lean to optimize the flow of strategy, alleviate operational pain and reduce waste.

What is it?

The Lean Portfolio Bootcamp 10-week learning and workshop series guiding you through introducing lean to your existing portfolios.

It blends the minimum viable lean-agile theory with progressively guided discovery and focused, supported practice to build the fluency and readiness you need to alleviate operational pain, reduce waste, and accelerate your portfolio's ability to deploy strategy.

At end of the bootcamp your leadership team will have an improvement roadmap, a deep understanding of how those improvements rely on your context, and the skills needed to achieve lean impact.

Who's it for?

We help you build a focused cohort of Portfolio Leadership, PMO/VMO supporters, leaders within the portfolio, enterprise architects, and representatives of your LACE.

This cohort contains all the expertise and insights needed to lean out your portfolio. We'll help activate this group and generate the improvement momentum that keeps on giving.

What's in it?

The bootcamp contains 8 week-long segments that each address a different practice area for Lean Portfolios.

Each week in class, your cohort will learn key concepts, explore insights from your own portfolio, and then merge the two as you chart a path forward together.

After each class, you'll leave with homework to further apply the new concepts to your portfolio. We'll then review that homework together in office hours to refine the ideas, improve understanding of the concepts, and amplify the impact of your upcoming interventions.

Do we need it?

Your portfoalio operations directly impact your value delivery and strategy achievement. It impacts every team, train, and investment you make.

The effectiveness of your lean portfolio approach is a multiplier to every dollar you spend.

That multiplier may be positive or very, very negative. If you're still reading this, you probably have a sense you need some help.

What to expect

Each of the 8 core weeks repeats the following cycle:

  • 2-hour full-cohort session learning about a new area, immediately applying those ideas to your own portfolio, and exploring the implications of different approaches.
  • A focused homework assignment applying the new ideas at a deeper level, testing them for fitness and value in your own organization.
  • 1-hour deep dive debrief discussions of the homework in private cohort office hours.

The first week focuses on opportunity assessment and establishing the foundation for participating successfully, while the final week focuses on exploring and preparing a candidate improvement roadmap to begin delivering.

Finally, the instructors are generally available via private cohort chat throughout the week.
